The Project consortium is comprised by 3 organizations from Turkey, Poland and Italy
Nazilli Hem HEM is a public institution in the centre of Nazilli, with the population of over 150 000. Nazilli is located in the west part of Turkey. The city is less populated than other towns nearby and it attracts people from other parts of the country. There is a need to educate and train people coming from other parts of the country. The main target of HEM institutions all over the country is to train and educate both local and migrant people to make their naturalization into social life easier and to help them to become qualified members of the local society. Nazilli Hem is a non-profit public body and annually we provide more than 700 courses to people. That means almost over 15.000 attendants every year which is equal to the 10% of the whole population. More than half of these courses are for people over the age of 50 and they prefer the institution as a place to adopt themselves into the changing world and life styles. Folk dances and ITC and language courses are the most favoured ones. Organizing jogging tours , festivals, reincarnation of old hand-crafts, weaving, embroidery are only some of the activities carried out. Nazilli HEM employs more than 50 teachers many of whom teach foreign languages ,old hand crafts and how to read and write. Regarding literacy the center collected special expertises in recent years and achieved a very high success rate in Turkey. One important key to success is to motivate the learners to go on with the classes. Nazilli HEM achieves this by offering leisure group activities - e.g. dancing or sports classes - to the students who stick to the lessons and thus fosters a good group spirit. Beside foreign language education the courses for illiteral people play a very important role for the organization. The target group for these courses include unemployed people, seniors and also prisoners. Nazilli HEM is trying to use alternative approaches in teaching how to read and write including E-learning methods.
